The Impact of Giving.

At Denstone College, we are proud to be a charitable institution that extends far beyond the classroom to make a significant impact on both our local community and the wider world. As part of our ongoing commitment to support and enrich the lives of others, we have developed numerous initiatives that benefit a broad range of individuals and organisations.

Among these efforts, we provide means-tested bursaries to over 100 of our current pupils, ensuring that every deserving student has the opportunity to thrive. In addition, we are deeply committed to fostering collaborative relationships with local schools, offering them access to our exceptional teaching resources and facilities

Our work as a charity, and our desire to make an impact on the wider community, underpins all that we do.

We also recognise the importance of giving back to our local communities, and through partnerships and volunteering, we work closely with a number of community groups to drive positive change. Every academic year, we raise over £6,000 for both local and national charities, helping to instill a culture of philanthropy in our students from a young age.

Our impact reaches even further, with partner schools benefitting from our facilities, whether it be for sports, music, drama, or access to specialist equipment. Through these collaborative efforts, we open doors to new opportunities for young people, helping to inspire and empower them to achieve their full potential.

Looking ahead, we have ambitious goals for the future, but we know we cannot achieve them alone. It is only with the continued generosity of our alumni, parents, and staff—whether through financial support or volunteer time—that we can continue to drive meaningful change.

^{My journey to Denstone College.}

We asked one of our transformational bursary recipients what it meant to them to be awarded a place at Denstone College.

Being offered a place at Denstone College was a surreal feeling, actually arriving was pure euphoria! For me, to be given a bursary was a chance to make something of my life and achieve things I once thought impossible.

I was awarded a fully-funded place, allowing my transition from a day pupil at a state school where I found the environment extremely challenging, to a full-time boarder.

Being at the College has gifted me the opportunity to not only fulfil my dreams, but to believe in myself and my abilities.

Denstone College hasn't just provided me with a rounded education, it's provided me with a family, a home away from home and the courage and confidence to see the true potential I hold.

After being here for only a few months, I can positively say that making the decision to come here and go on this incredible journey was the best choice I ever made, and I look forward to continuing on this path and seeing where my life takes me. Being a Denstonian means that not even the sky is the limit.

Charity Spotlight.

Our parents and pupils support a number of charities through various fundraising events that include; Non-uniform day, cake sales, sports challenges and social events.

On Sunday 17th November 2024, a team of inspiring pupils from Denstone College took on the Alton Towers half marathon, raising over £14,000 for Young Lives Vs Cancer.

Incredible work from all involved, and all those that donated to this cause.

As Assistant Head (Partnerships) at Denstone College, Chris Farman is focused on strengthening relationships between the College and wider community.

Chris oversees initiatives that provide mutual benefit, ensuring that our outreach work supports young people beyond our own student body. Whether through educational support, enrichment programmes, or extracurricular activities, our aim is to make a lasting impact on the community we serve.

Denstone College has a strong tradition of engaging with local schools and community groups to address social and educational needs. One of our key collaborations involves working with state schools to provide academic enrichment sessions. These workshops offer students access to specialist facilities and teaching that may not be readily available in their own schools.

Sport is another key area where we work alongside local schools. Our coaching staff regularly run training sessions for primary and secondary school students, particularly in cricket and hockey, helping to develop skills, teamwork, and confidence. We have also partnered with numerous local charities to provide a range of support.

Beyond education, Denstone College has been actively involved in community service projects. For example, our students take part in environmental initiatives, such as tree-planting and conservation work, as well as volunteering at food banks and homeless shelters. These experiences not only benefit the wider community but also instil a strong sense of social responsibility in our students.

The feedback from local schools and community groups has been overwhelmingly positive. Teachers from partner schools have highlighted the academic support programmes as instrumental in raising attainment and inspiring students to aim higher.

Moving forward, we are committed to further strengthening these collaborations, seeking new ways to support and uplift the local community. At Denstone College, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom, and through our partnerships, we can help build a brighter future for all young people, regardless of their background.

Planning Ahead.

We are committed to preserving our heritage, and building for the future. Our ambitious development plans will ensure that we maintain the historic charm of our campus, whilst equipping it with excellent facilities to meet the needs of future generations.

Denstone College is undertaking a major infrastructure improvement project to enhance our facilities and support the needs of our students and staff. We are upgrading our electrical and water systems to ensure modern, efficient utilities across the campus. Additionally, a phased roof refurbishment scheme is underway to maintain the integrity of our historic buildings, ensuring they remain weather-resistant and functional for years to come.

We are also focusing on improving key spaces across the campus. Upgrades to the chapel audio and lighting systems will enhance the spiritual and cultural experiences for students and visitors. At the same time, we are refurbishing boarding houses and common rooms to provide more comfortable and welcoming spaces for our students to live and socialise. Improvements to our facilities heavily rely on donations to Denstone College, in particular, directed towards our Heritage and Infrastructure funds.

Monday 28th & Tuesday 29th April 2025

On the 28th & 29th April, we will come together as a community to raise critical funds for two appeals.

Denstone College Heritage Fund.

Every penny donated will make a tremendous impact to the lives of young people, including our pupils, and those within our local community. We not only plan to honour our commitment of bursaries for the pupils we currently support, but hope in the future to expand this life-changing programme. We are passionate about a word where background and financial situation should not be a barrier to education.
