The dedication of St Chad's Chapel made headlines in 1887. Coverage of this memorable occasion was published in The Guardian, The Pall Mall Gazette and The Manchester Guardian.

" One of the most important events in the history of Canon Woodard's middle-class colleges and schools takes place to-day. This is the opening and dedication by the Bishop of Lichfield (Dr. Maclagan) of the handsome new chapel in connection with S. Chad's College, Denstone.
… The plan of the chapel consists of an oblong 114ft. 6in. by 38it. (^inside measurement), with a doublestoreyed ante-chapel 15ft. by 38ft. Beyond this oblong chapel proper is tiie apsidal sanctuary, 37ft by 22f't. 6in. flanked on either side by towers opening into it and into the body of the chapel.
