Denstone students…
Arrive punctually with the correct equipment, ready to learn. They are academically ambitious characterised by a clear focus on improvement and going beyond the general expectations (for example, in wider reading or participation in wider endeavours such as the Denstone Diploma). Students are determined and resilient and do not give up easily, they stay on-task and see tasks through. Students are also open-minded and reflective showing a keenness to understand new ways of thinking, responding well to feedback and able to consider their learning as a process. Increasingly, students are independent as they move through the year groups, they are able to work on their own and complete prep tasks on time and to the highest of their ability, they can manage research tasks well and work is their own being able to cite other sources when used. Students take pride in their work and strive to present work neatly and keep folders and work in an organised manner. Students are academically curious wanting to know more, asking thoughtful questions about their learning and increasingly able to transfer relevant knowledge to unfamiliar situations. Students are collaborative and able to work in groups in order to help and support others with their learning.
The grade reported by a subject teacher will be based on a consideration of a student’s proximity to all aspects of this statement. Achieving a grade 1 (Excellent) means that a student is, in the view of the subject teacher, consistently meeting all aspects of the criteria. Where a grade 3 (Inconsistent) or grade 4 (Poor) is reported the this will reflect an inconsistency or failure on the part of the student to meet some or all aspects of this statement. Report comments will often highlight such areas for future improvement.
An Attitude to Learning grade will appear on every half term/end of term subject report for every reported subject in every year.
Attainment grading for half term and end of term reports follows the following criteria:
