GCSE and Sixth Form Options
Students in both the Third and Fifth Forms will this year have the opportunity to select suitable courses for further study in the coming GCSE and Sixth Form years.
Our Progressing to Sixth Form Evening (for Fifth Form parents and pupils) will provide further information on subject choices and available options in our Sixth Form. Our ‘Senior School Curriculum’ guide will be circulated before this event , and students will also have the opportunity to find out more about their choices at the Options Fair for Fifth Form in late November. All Fifth Form students will be invited to a meeting with Mr Lightfoot (our Head of Careers) during the Michaelmas term and tutorial time will also be spent providing guidance and information to help with these important decisions. Students will be asked to select their preferred courses for Sixth Form by the end of the Michaelmas term, with more information about this process available in November for parents and students.
Our Third Form students will be submitting GCSE options choices towards the end of the Lent term, with further information about available options and guidance available at around half term in Lent. The Lent term Parents’ evening will be an opportunity for pupils and parents to find out more about suitability for the different GCSE courses we offer, and our ‘Middle School Curriculum’ document will be released closer to the time to help with these decisions too.
Changing Subject Options
Lower Sixth or Fourth Form students who are considering a change to their subject options are, once the school year begins, required to discuss this initially with their tutor who will advise them on the next steps. Where possible such changes will be accommodated in the first half term of the Michaelmas term, but any subsequent requests are unlikely to be accepted. Parental permission for any subject changes will also be required at this stage, and changes will always be dependent on the availability of subjects, with some GCSE and Sixth Form options already full and therefore unavailable.
